Busselton resident Julie Cowperthwaite is about to set off on a solo 1000 kilometre mountain bike ride down the Munda Biddi track to raise money for Alzheimer's WA.
Ms Cowperthwaite starts her ride on Thursday October 10 in Perth and will take around three weeks carrying her gear before she reaches Albany.
Ms Cowperthwaite wanted to raise money for the organisation to help people affected by Alzheimer's in the South-West.
"Both my parents had Alzheimer's, sadly I lost my mum now," she said.
"After I lost my mum I really got into riding, I wanted to just ride away really, so I decided to do something and raise some money for Alzheimer's WA."
An experienced mountain biker, Ms Cowperthwaite said this would be the first time she has done a long journey on her own.
"I am excited and nervous, but am really looking forward to it," she said.
"It is Spring, the flowers will be amazing and through Facebook I have been speaking to other people who have been around the track.
"My friends and family have been really supportive also and will meet me at different points along the way."
