A convicted pedophile has been granted parole after serving 14 months in prison for three counts of sexually penetrating a child and two counts of indecently dealing with a child.
The maximum penalty for sexually penetrating a child is 14 years imprisonment and seven years imprisonment for indecent dealings.
The Mail understands the former driving instructor Peter Wallace Hill will be monitored by Community Corrections officers in Busselton after being released on parole yesterday.
As part of Hill's parole conditions he must not have any direct or indirect contact with his victims.
He has also been instructed to immediately engage in employment, voluntary work, training or job seeking and remain engaged for the duration of parole.
Hill must also have no unsupervised contact with male children under 18 years of age and attend programs and counselling as directed.
While a Department of Justice spokesperson would not comment on individual cases they said the Prisoners Review Board decided whether a prisoner was eligible for parole and set the parole conditions.
The spokesperson said victims were given the opportunity to provide an impact statement to the board and could also request to receive information about the release of a prisoner, including the parole conditions, if they were registered on the Victim Notification Register.
Vasse MLA Libby Mettam said the West Australian criminal justice system had let this local family down.
"This family will suffer with the fallout of these offences for the rest of their lives and for one of the perpetrators to serve less than half of his original term - it's incredibly unjust and completely inadequate as a punishment or a deterrent," she said.
"Given the offender's previous known employment had caused a great deal of associated anxiety - now to have the knowledge this person is back in the electorate is understandably very distressing.
"The local community deserves to know what this offender's reporting conditions are and how they will be monitored to ensure this never happens again."
