The roads of Nannup will be alive this weekend with the sound of spinning wheels and whirring gears for the 10th Tour of Margaret River cycling race.
The event takes place from Friday November 8 until Sunday November 10 consisting of four stages.
Stage one is a team time trial in Nannup on Friday, and stage two is a 56 kilometre road race from Nannup to Greenbushes on Saturday.
Sunday consists of a 70km road race from Nannup to Balingup via Kirup on Sunday morning, and a 45km team time trial from Balingup to Nannup on Sunday afternoon.
More than 600 riders including European pro tour riders, international riders, ex-world champions and Australian cycling legends participating in the event.
Teams of six riders will be categorised according to times after the first team time trial stage. Jerseys and trophies are awarded in various categories, giving the event the status of a European style Grand Tour.
Local cyclists have spent months preparing for the event with Busselton Cycling Club members participating in lead up events around the state.
Two Busselton teams will be in the starting chute on race day.
Among the riders is 10 time tour veteran Adrian Wood, one of only two cyclists in the field who has completed all 10 tours.
The Busselton rider will be a valuable member of the team as he uses his experience to direct the peloton.
Among the two BCC teams, there have been some impressive podium performances in lead up events, with many riders hopeful of a good showing.
BCC team one captain Soeren Groen said they had a good mix of strong time triallists and punchy sprinters for the hillier terrain.
"We are well placed to meet whatever scenario appears as the races unfold," he said.
There are teams from Bunbury, Dunsborough, Margaret River as well as a large contingent of riders from Perth.
The racing is sure to be fast and furious in all categories with highly coveted trophies on offer.
As the racing season draws to its close, many riders will be looking at this as a last chance for a result.
There are great spectator options for all stages, refer to the Tour of Margaret River website for details.
The Busselton Cycling Club conducts regular mid-week and weekend rides and caters for all levels of ability. The club can be contacted through via Facebook, their web page or through a local bike shop.
