A smoke alert has been issued for areas across the South West after light winds and settled weather conditions caused a build-up of smoke from prescribed burns.
The alert, issued by the Department of Biodiversity on Monday afternoon, November 18, is for areas bounded by Pemberton, Nannup, Cape Naturaliste, Bunbury and Donnybrook.
It is understood the smoke is a result of prescribed burns undertaken by the Parks and Wildlife Service and is expected to clear by Tuesday morning, November 19.
Residents are urged to close doors and windows and turn air-conditioners off.
Motorists should take car while driving, turn on headlights and travel at the appropriate speed, with smoke having reduced visibility on some roads.
Those with pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular illnesses are urged to follow their pre-prepared treatment plan.
People with conditions exacerbated by smoke should take precautions.
