Sometimes all you need is a little luck in racing and on Friday night at Gloucester Park the Barry Howlett trained Talktomeyourmattjesty was in the right place in the right time.
Second up from a spell Talktomeyourmattjesty put in an eye catching run first up last week when getting home well to run third and on Friday night the eight-year-old with noted front running driver Kyle Harper in the sulky made their intentions clear from the start and it was the lead they wanted.
After reaching the lead they carved out some solid sectionals and with 600m to run it looked like the field was closing in on the front runner, but when favourite Mighty Conqueror did things wrong on the point of the turn he would take out most of the field.
Talktomeyourmattjesty would fight on bravely even after Caviar Star got the nose in front but Kyle urged the eight-year-old to regain the lead and score by one and a half metres.
Barry Howletts' followers would have enjoyed the massive price of $91 on fixed odds and with more improvement on the horizon, could we see a summer carnival contender?
Michelle Charman's Flaming Cullen continues his consistent form when finishing third at Pinjarra on Monday.
Barry Howletts' followers would have enjoyed the massive price of $91 on fixed odds...
Sent out second favourite reinsman Chris Lewis took the gelding straight to the front but odds on favourite The Last Drop would move along side Flaming Cullen and the favourites would go toe to toe.
The Last Drop would make it three wins in a row and Flaming Cullen would drop off late to finish third.
Flaming Cullen would qualify for a stand at Busselton Sunday afternoon; and if able to find the lead would be hard to pass.
- Busselton's first meeting will be on Boxing Day, December 26.
