Community groups, businesses and individuals across the South West of WA are stepping up to show their support for the nation's firefighters in the wake of the ongoing bushfire disaster.
One young Margaret River resident, Meg, decided to take action, gathering her friends and neighbours to host a toy sale near her home. Proud mum Victoria McKenzie said Meg had the idea after witnessing the devastation caused by the fires across the country.
"Thank you to everyone who came, bought, donated and beeped," Ms McKenzie said. "What a fabulous, heartwarming day."
The Little People's Place Vasse childcare centre launched a Facebook fundraiser, which gained more than $1800 in donations by Monday afternoon.
Margaret River's businesses are also stepping up, with the Margaret River District Club and Settlers Tavern planning fundraising events.
The District Club's Family Barbecue event will offer a fundraiser barbecue, live music and drink specials from 12 noon Sunday with proceeds donated to the Margaret River Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service.
"With the memory of our own fires across the South West still fresh in our minds, it's important to do what we can to support our region's brigades and services," said a Club spokesperson.
"We are encouraging the local community to come down to the Club on Sunday and enjoy a delicious lunch with us on the deck, take part in some great raffles and maybe win some prizes all in aid of wonderful local fireys, who help with not only bushfires but car accidents, beach rescues and countless other incidents across the region."

Settlers Tavern will join the region's fundraising efforts with a Red Cross Bushfire Appeal Fundraiser Concert on Thursday January 16.
Entertainment Coordinator Gilly Reid said the tavern was calling out to bands and musicians keen to take part in the concert, as well as local businesses wishing to donate prizes.
"We raised $40,000 for the 2011 local fires recovery, let's do it again," Ms Reid said.
"Bring the family for dinner early, or come later to enjoy amazing music. Save the date and let us know if you can contribute."
Donations will be accepted from 7pm on Thursday January 16 at the Tavern, with doors open for the fundraising concert from 8.30pm. Entry is $10, with raffles and prizes on the night.
