The 2020 Taj's Small Fries was greeted with epic surf conditions for three full days of competition and finished with a solid two metre plus swell for the finals on Sunday.
Local riders capitalised in the perfect surf at Shallows reef break with a number of other competitors from interstate and overseas with eight champions decided.
The popular event started in 2006 and has been going strong ever since while producing some of the future stars of surfing.
Fifteen years on, a new generation of grommets battled ferociously to join the prestigious honour roll of Small Fries event champions.
Burrow said this year's Small Fries was one of the best they've had.
"These groms are so cool and surf so good. Thanks to everyone who was involved and supported making this happen, I can't wait for the next one," he said.
The 14 and under boys' final was a delight for spectators, with all four finalists going ballistic to try and secure the win.
Yallingup's Otis North tapped into his home ground advantage and found the best waves on offer during the 20-minute final to secure a win for the locals.
North scored an imposing 15.45 combined heat total (from a possible 20), that included an excellent 8.25 and back up 7.20. North edged out WA trio Macklin Flynn (Cowaramup), Okie Fraser (Margaret River) and Jesse Siedmiogrodzki (City Beach) in one of the many quality finals of the day.
North thanked Antman for being on the jet ski all weekend and the Surfing WA crew for a sick event, his sponsors and Taj for being such a legend.
"I get to surf with Taj sometimes, especially when it's big and barrelling," he said.
Maverick Wilson (Dunsborough) proved he's a star on the rise, defending his 12 and under boys' title with a dominant performance. Wilson put in the work when required to defeat Remy North (Yallingup), Max McGillvray (Evans Head, NSW) and Okie Fraser (Margaret River), using his high-speed, razor-sharp rail game to post a combined total of 14.65 (from a possible 20). Macklin Flynn (Cowaramup) and Brock Launders (Margaret River) went head-to-head in an enthralling man-on-man final for the 16 and under boys' division.
Flynn said he did not think he'd make it that far in the 16's.
"I don't come up to Yallingup that much, I like to surf close to home at Gracetown, but the waves were pumping for most of today and it feels great to add my name to all the amazing 16's champions here at Small Fries," he said.
Willow Hardy (Margaret River) was another impressive winner, claiming her fifth win at Taj's Small Fries and her maiden victory in the 16 and under girls' division.
"The wind had picked up and I was in my spring suit and I just wanted to keep catching waves to stay warm out there," Hardy said. "I love this event and want to thank my friends and family for their support."
Taj's Small Fries will be back again, bigger and better than ever next year.
