Fourteen juniors, masters and seniors from the Geographe Outriggers are about to make their way to the Sunshine Coast in QLD to compete in the nationals.
The Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association's National Sprint Titles flat water regatta will be held at Lake Kawana from January 31 until February 2.
Approximately 30 clubs from around Australia will compete in the three-day event.
Geographe Outriggers junior members Kara Haynes, Lilia Trifford and Shannon Lucas will be making the journey east to race for the second time in the nationals.
The junior outriggers have been participating in the sport between three to four years.
Ms Trifford said it was a great team sport and unlike other team sports they really had to work together to keep in time.
The nationals include courses where competitors will be required to paddle in a straight line and others where they will need to round markers on a course.
Depending on the age group the paddlers will be required to complete courses between 500 metres and 1000m with an increasing number of turns on the longer courses.
Ms Lucas said it was a great experience and despite finishing with the fastest time in the V1 event last year she was disqualified for crossing into the wrong lane.
"Everyone does it at least once in the competition," she said.
