The 25th annual Sunsmart Busselton Jetty Swim will be a family affair for the Semarks, with three generations of the family set to take to the water together.
Glenys, Andrew and young Isla will join more than 3,000 other competitors participating in the open water swim around the Busselton Jetty.
The plan has been one year in the making, with Isla having vowed to swim the lengthy course after participating in the kids swim in 2019.
Now, 12 months on, nine-year-old Isla said she had been training for several months to prepare for the event and that she was eager to achieve her goal.
"I thought it would be fun to do and I made it a goal to do," she said.
"My family doing it with me made me feel more comfortable about it [the swim], too.
"I feel very happy, because Grandma said it was her last time doing the jetty swim and I want to do it with her.
"I want to do it with Dad as well. I'm just excited to do it and achieve my goal."
When Isla's grandmother Glenys participated in the jetty swim back in 2007, she said she was positive it would be her last.
However, the former swimming teacher admitted she simply couldn't pass up an opportunity to create a special memory with her family and help Isla to achieve her goal.
"Isla has been swimming a lot," she said.
"I have helped to teach the children to swim, so I thought it would be really nice if I could wrap up my swimming teaching and do this swim with Isla.
"Being an anniversary for the jetty as well, I thought that was quite a special event as well.
"I am excited to do it because it does create a lovely memory for the family.
"I've watched Isla progress through her swimming lessons and it's lovely to swim with her and my son, too.
"You know, it is really special that I am fit and able to get in the water and create these memories with my family.
"It's now 12 months since we committed to doing the swim and it's suddenly here again."
The two-day event will be held on Saturday, February 8, and Sunday, February 9 at the Busselton Foreshore.
Isla extended thanks to the event's organisers for allowing swimmers to challenge themselves and have fun.
