A rising new star has emerged at the Capel Bowls Club after the Ladies Singles Championships sponsored by Iluka Resources was played on Thursday, January 23.
Donna Krepp who has only been playing bowls for four years took out the championship in a hard fought contest with former captain, Bev Mckenna. She won 25 points to 23.
To get through to the final Krepp had to negotiate through a strong field of contenders including former State bowler, Bev Scott who has won the Capel championship numerous times.
The singles championship is a gruelling contest with the first to score 21 points against an opponent in the knockout rounds and 25 points in the final.
One of the several games Krepp played went for more than two hours.
Capel ladies first division team has won the South West League pennant title fifteen times out of the last 20 years.
Krepp was part of last year's premiership team and played as a lead.
Prior to taking up bowls Donna was a handy hockey player.
Kylie Kammann won the Plate over Lorraine Pell which was also a hard fought contest.
Capel Ladies captain, Joy O'Brien said it has been wonderful to see the development of Krepp since joining the Club.
"Donna has worked hard on her game and has made an excellent transition from hockey to bowls. She is a worthy winner," Joy said.
