A Busselton couple who share a love of art will open their studio to the public for this year's Margaret River Region Open Studios event.
While it wasn't art that brought Lara Karpeljuk and Tony Tomkiw together, it was an online art course that inspired the pair to paint.
When Ms Karpeljuk was pregnant she took an online course and discovered she had quite a talent, this inspired her partner Mr Tomkiw to pick up a paintbrush, something which he had not done since high school.
Ms Karpeljuk said her work mainly consisted of animals and Australian flowers using all sorts of mediums including acrylic, water colour and pencil drawings.
"I really like wildlife, it always changes, no animal is the same even the textures of their coat and they all have their own impressions, it is the same with flowers they are forever changing," she said.
"Everyday I bought a bunch of flowers and everyday I would took another picture, it is really nice to see that."
This year marks the third time Ms Karpeljuk will take part in MRROS which sees artists from Busselton to Augusta welcome the public into their private studios from April 25 until May 10.
She said the event was great to connect with other artists and the general public.
"You get a lot of feedback and advice from people who come to visit your studio, that is what I enjoy most, you get a lots of hints and tips on what to use and how to improve, it is really helpful."
It will be the first time her partner Mr Tomkiw takes part in the event showcasing his work which is inspired by a love of the ocean.
"I have been a surfer for a long time, I did a lot of travelling when I was younger and saw a lot of places, I have drawn a lot of inspiration from that," he said.
"What drove me down this path was when I saw what Lara was doing, developing and getting better and better, then we had a 15 minute challenge to see what we could come up with.
"I actually produced something we thought was pretty good, when I had long service I threw some paint on some ply and it went from there.
"I entered four pieces in the Bunbury Art Extraordinaire not thinking I would get a sale and sold three.
"For me it is a bit of fun which I enjoy. I experiment with different mediums, my work is more abstract ."
