Share the Dignity have launched a COVID cash appeal in order to deal with the huge influx of requests from charities nationawide.
Share the Dignity works to make a real, on the ground difference in the lives of women and girls experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or doing it tough through distributing sanitary items.
There has been a Share the Dignity Drive happening throughout the month of August with drop off boxes located at every Woolworths store.
This month, Share the Dignity received over $700,000 worth of requests for period products from 886 charities nationwide.
Sadly, with the economic fall out of COVID-19, it is unlikely these requests will be able to be filled and we are estimating that we would need to reject over 50 percent of these applications, leaving more women and girls without access to period products.
Share the Dignity has a huge number of items to distribute and we need the generosity of the public to fulfil those requests.
Share the Dignity is hoping to raise $350,000 to fulfil these donations and help those living in crisis and experiencing period poverty.
Share the Dignity founder Rochelle Courtney said in March the dignity drive was cut short because of the restrictions from COVID-19.
"It broke my heart that we couldn't fulfil the requests from charities," she said.
"We've seen an increase on the Share the Dignity Facebook page of people begging for help.
"We haven't seen this many messages before.
"This shows how many people are struggling and how many charities are reaching capacity to help."
