The recently held Busselton Croquet Singles Championship 2020 saw some new members put up a talented showing against the Club's more established players.
The annual competition is to find the Club's best singles player who will go on and play other clubs champions in a "Champion of Champions" competition to be held in Perth in September.
Close to the end of competition four players were on seven wins each and it looked like it would come down to a hoop count back but in one of the last games played, Geoff Cusworth prevailed in a hard fought battle with Barry Colton to surge to the front with eight wins out of a possible 10. John Boucher and Robyn Dart, both previous Club Champions, remained equal on seven wins each.
After a hoop countback John Boucher was placed second one net-hoop ahead of Robyn Dart in third place.
Geoff is new to croquet and his skills are evident placing the Busselton Croquet Club in a good position into the future.
Any disappointment felt by Robyn was short lived as she also competed in the State's Ladies Singles Championship, held in Bunbury, against many good players from both city and country clubs. Robyn went on to win the title in a play-off against Moorabinda Club's Dale Jury. Robyn's win helps cement her place in the State Squad.
