In the preliminary final in the South West Netball Football League there was a place in the Grand final up for grabs.
The Magpies 18 and Under team were up against the Carey Park Panthers.
It was a fiercely contested game with a nervous start made by both teams which resulted in a fairly even 12-11 quarter to the Magpies.
With a plethora of talent to choose from the Magpies Coach made a change at the first break bringing on Che Harcombe who came out swooping at WD.
This provided the drive through the centre court that they had been lacking as Ruby Simonetti and Montanna Tenardi were outstanding in defence creating multiple turnovers that the Magpies had been unable to capitalise on.
Centre court player Felicty Watson made a determined effort to stop the drive from her centre court player and to prevent her from getting onto the circle edge whilst Isabel Legros was kept busy feeding into the goalies.
The Magpies were playing in a more controlled manner and with more patience as they waited for the opportunity to present for the right feed into the goalies they took control of the game and were up 24-19 at the main break.
The Magpies continued in the same manner as they worked extremely hard to build on their lead.
Despite the scoreline the Panthers were waiting to pounce on any opportunity and you could sense a turn in the game was possible at any moment.
Not to be outshone by their team mates up the other end Asha Hughes and Jordie Harcombe dominated in their goal circle with their accuracy and team work which resulted in a 14-6 quarter in their favour.
Going into the final term the Magpies were prepared for one final attack from the Panthers but it wasn't enough as the Magpies held strong in a very evenly contested quarter 10-8.
The Magpies finished off the game with a 48-33 win which sees them join their League team mates on Grand Final Day.
The 18 and Under team will play at 3pm vs the Blackwood Ravens who were last years Premiers and League play at 7.30pm against old arch rivals the Bunbury Bulldogs at the Eaton Recreation Centre on Saturday September 19.
Don't miss out on all the netball action.
