Earlier this month, Cruz Uros finished first place in the ASF (Australian Skateboarding Federation) series of Bowl/Park for 9 and Under season 2019/20.
The series works with a number of competitions that are held around Australia throughout the year.
Skateboarders are awarded points at each competition depending on their ranking, similar to ATP rankings in tennis.
At the end of the season the skateboarder with the highest amount of points wins.
Cruz started skating in Dunsborough when he was two and a half years old.
His father Timm Uros, a skateboarder himself said that the reopening of the Dunsborough skatepark eight years ago has created a great skate community.
With support from the city and the community, we have seen a lot of great local talent coming out Dunsborough and Busselton. He also believes that to have a core skate shop like Soggybones in such a small town has help Cruz reaching this year title.
Owner Luke ward consistently has events for the kids and with another local Lachlan Micale who also runs skate schools.
As for Cruz, when asked if he was stoked to be named number one in Australia he simply said: yeah.
" He is just your typical kid who loves to surf, skate and play soccer," Mr Uros said.
"The support the community provides for our kids down here is great: the facilities the shire provides, Tailtap skateboarding Clinics, Soggybones and the Yallingup Boardriders are a few of the local organisations that are so supportive in helping kids reach their potential, it is great to be part of such a great community."
