City of Busselton have once again put its support behind the 26th anniversary of the Busselton Jetty Swim due to be held on the weekend of February 13 and 14, 2021.
Over the past 25 years, the Jetty Swim has evolved into an iconic Western Australian event which has continued to grow in both participant and spectator numbers, and also prestige.
It is recognised and supported by the City of Busselton as a hallmark event on the local event calendar.
The Jetty Swim has truly become a 'bucket list' event, evident in the fact that registrations for the swim sell out in record time every year.
The event weekend is jam-packed with activities that traditionally attract people of all ages and demographics, from intrastate, interstate and international.
The economic impact generated by the Busselton Jetty Swim has grown every year. In 2020 it was estimated to have returned $4.4 million to the region.
In the wake of COVID-19, events like the Busselton Jetty Swim have become all the more important in stimulating visitation, enabling economic growth and employment, and supporting local businesses and community groups.
The 2021 Jetty Swim will focus on community inclusiveness and affordability. But perhaps more importantly the event will celebrate recovery and participation through the offering of a range of different events and activities including the Busselton Jetty Swim; One Mile Swim To Shore; Kids Swim; Sunset Concert and a host of family games and activities on the foreshore.
City of Busselton Mayor Grant Henley said the 2021 event signals a fresh start for major events in the City of Busselton.
"The Busselton Jetty Swim will support much needed economic stimulus, and it will also help raise community spirit and encourage people to get involved, both as participants and supportive spectators. Outdoor activity does wonders for people's physical and mental wellbeing and our beautiful foreshore is the perfect backdrop to celebrate healthy lifestyles".
The strong force behind the Busselton Jetty Swim event is the formidable Busselton Allsports Incorporated committee made up of 18 passionate local members dedicating thousands of hours over the year to the event. All the committee members are integral in the planning and delivery of the home-grown grassroots open water swim.
The focus of the organising committee is to deliver a safe, affordable, inclusive and accessible swim and as a result of the support of the community, this goal has been achieved year after year.
As they embark on the 2021 event, the organising committee vow to continue giving back to the Busselton community.
With a bumper year planned for 2021, the committee have been working extremely hard but cautiously in the background since the last swimmer crossed the line in 2020.
They have been following all Federal and State guidelines and health directives and are hopeful that the 2021 Busselton Jetty Swim will be a safe and welcoming environment for all.
