Scroungers Men's Tennis sponsored by Makit Geographe Timber and Hardware is played at the Busselton Tennis Club every Thursday afternoon.
The event has proven socially to be a competitive hit since it was introduced back in 2015 by Grayden Clack.
For the past three years Fred La Rose has taken over as coordinator and developed the fun competition regardless of the varied weekly weather forecasts to predictably be 'a great day for tennis'.
At the end of each session there is both team and individual scores along with personal rankings fastidiously updated and graphically recorded by Mr La Rose, creating an entertaining two team weekly report on the ups and downs, ebbs and flows of both teams
On November 26, 20202 Mr La Rose Fred reported that it was a great day for tennis.
"The match was a tad one-side as the Green Outlaws comfortably defeated the Red Bandits by 13 sets/84 games to 4 sets/57 games.
"As most of you know everyone is supposed to win two sets each, but oh no we have to have four doughnuts and four four set winners.
"Andrew 'Dexter' O'Neill won 24 games for and 14 games against to finish fourth, Glen 'John Paul' Young 24 for and 12 against was third.
"The star of the day became the stars of the day as they could not be separated on count back as both won 24 games and had 10 against.
"Doug 'Rabbit' Hutch elected to take a $25 gift voucher generously donated by Gus from Makit Geographe Timber and Hardware and Freddo (amid a call of rigged, I think it was someone from the far right) sacrificed and took home the bottle of shiraz."
Continuing with Freddo's dry wit - on December 3, 2020 we have 16 starters already and spots on the list are filling fast and as there are only have 84 left, you need to get your name in real quick if you don't want to miss out.
The list is: Kim Goodridge, Wayne Richter, Cliff Silke, Rob Lennox, Bruce Jackson, Bernie Masters, Tony Schilders, Gus Guthrie, Frank Marsh, Andrew O'Neill, Doug Hutchison, Glen Young, Peter Maccora, Alan Jobling, Les Cousins and Freddo.
