A two-year drought without any A-Grade centuries in the Busselton-Margaret River Cricket Association was broken in style last Saturday when two batsmen broke through for classy tons.
Aaron Mott scored an outstanding knock of 102 at the Dunsborough Playing Fields to guide Dunsborough to their first win of the season - and Margaret River Hawks' first loss.
Meanwhile at Bovell Park, Luke Wedderburn notched an equally excellent 104 to set up YOBS for their victory over St Marys in another entertaining A-Grade affair.
Dunsborough were in big trouble at 3-15 after batting first against Hawks, before recovering when Mott found support from Hugh Mugford and Phil Watts in the middle order.
Mott gave two hard chances in the field, and survived a run out chance, but played shots all round the ground and thoroughly deserved to reach three figures.
Mugford (20) added 78 with Mott for the fourth wicket, and then Phil Watts (33) put on a further 79 with Mott for the fifth wicket, finally succumbing when Shane Joyce held a strong return catch to claim his first career wicket for Hawks.
Hawks looked anything but unbeaten this season after starting with only 10 men and then being down to nine when Bailey Kelly dislocated a finger trying to catch Mott at mid-on.
Twelve-year-old Sam Joyce was called on to field as a substitute for Hawks and did an excellent job running from third man to deep fine leg for most of the innings.
Dunsborough's eventual tally of 222 all out in 49.1 overs proved well beyond the reach of Hawks, although Kavy de Silva (who took 5-21 in the Dunsborough innings) completed a typically brilliant allround performance when he smashed 32 runs at the top of the order before falling to a superb delivery from Billy McGowan.
Fielding highlights were provided by Nathan Whitney, diving to hold a catch at mid-off, and Matt Jamieson at slip, who plucked a one-handed blinder out of the air, to complete a morale-boosting performance for Dunsborough.
The Hawks innings eventually petered out to a relatively tame 5-164 from 50 overs.
At Bovell Park, Wedderburn's 104 led the way to YOBS totalling an imposing 9-208 from 50 overs. Fellow opener Chris Brook (31) and Nayton Colombera (24) helped YOBS get away to their match-winning start.
Saints were still in with a chance of snatching the game after the experienced Cary Green (33) and Nick Ritchie (24) got going, only for both to fall to Neil Langenhoven.
Jono Lloyd (52 off 57 balls) hit out boldly in the late overs as Saints mustered a creditable 174 before finally running out of fuel.
Legspinner Mark Ramirez continued his encouraging return to cricket with a four-wicket haul for YOBS.
In B-Grade cricket, Vasse had the better of YOBS in a low-scoring encounter on the turf at Barnard Park.
Vaughan Carter's 27 top-scored for Vasse (120), with Jake Grylls starring with the ball for YOBS with 3-16.
Set 121 to win, YOBS collapsed to be all out for 71, with Lincoln Gray hitting 39 in a standout performance.
Sam Shepherd returned brilliant figures of 4-5 off nine overs for Vasse to be the player of the day, supported by Tom Perks (3-22).
The other B-Grade game at Gloucester Park saw home team Margaret River Hawks easily outpoint Dunsborough.
Hawks (179) were led by David Holmes (42 not out), while left-armer Richard Norrish continued his wicket-taking form with 4-22 for Dunsborough.
In reply Dunsborough could muster only 74, of which Tom Begley (40) hit more than half the runs.
Sam Berridge (4-6) and Trent Matthews (3-15) returned very tidy figures for Hawks.
In C-Grade cricket there was an outstanding game at Dunsborough Playing Fields, with Nannup compiling a superb 4-224 (Jay Wynd hitting a brilliant 125), only to be defeated by Dunsborough's response of 4-225 off 36.4 overs.
James Carter (87 not out) was the hero of the day for Dunsborough in their memorable win.
The other two C-Grade games saw Cowaramup overtake St Marys' total of 7-148 at Cowaramup inside 27 overs, while Vasse (1-116 in 18 overs) made light work of chasing down Hawks' total of 7-113 at the Vasse Playing Fields.
