Geographe Bay Table Tennis Club recently completed their season with the Club Championships.
Tony Peak had a brilliant run in the knock-out event when he beat seasoned players Reg Peet and Les Dearden in the quarter and semi-finals respectively to reach the tournament final for the first time.
Unfortunately for Peak, multiple Club Champion and current title holder, Matt Cheng proved too strong and won 11-4, 11-5, 11-6.
The Patio Cup, an event for up-and-coming players, was the closest in club history and showed the great improvement shown by a number of players and particularly the juniors coming through the Club's Smash Hit Junior program.
Played in a round robin format, three players won the same number of matches. Chin Teng won on a close count back from promising junior Alfie Foster with experienced player Dudley Hamilton-Jones a close third.
The Ross Quantock Cup for most improved player in the club went to Anton Blume.
Despite the difficulties faced by COVID-19 the club had a successful year with exciting Junior, Obie Herring training in Perth with the State Squad.
He has a very strong chance of being picked in the Under 15 National Junior Championships to be held later in the year. The Club opens again on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
