The Dunsborough Men's Shed is holding an open day from 12pm to 3pm on Saturday June 26, 2021 and are inviting the community to checkout what they do.
Dunsborough Men's shed chairman Lee Edwards said many people were aware of their group, but few had any idea of what they did, particularly for the community.
"We have been open in our current location for over three years and are well overdue in letting the Dunsborough community know what we are up to besides acting as a creche for male senior citizens," he said.
One of the community projects the Men's Shed have been involved with is the award winning Djiljit Mia Community Gathering Place in Dunsborough's town centre.
"Our involvement began when we were first approached by Trish Flower on behalf of the Dunsborough Progress Association," Mr Edwards said.
"We were involved in the preparation of the many poles needed to kick start the project.
"Shedder Tony Morello with Bob Jarvis and Norm Heppleston of Busselton Steel collaborated in making the Boomerang and Shield seating.
'We built an aeroplane and mud kitchen for the Dunsborough Primary School. Other community projects included building a cubby for Coles as part of Telethon which raised $15,000.
"The Men's Shed also built a Santa sleigh which resided in the Lion's Park and renovated an 80-year-old whaler for the playground at the Geographe Bay Lighthouse.
"We've made and sold over 200 possum boxes and numerous nesting tubes for the endangered black cockatoos.
'We are always open to requests from the community, if we can do it - we will."
Mr Edwards said they particularly enjoyed making repairs and renovations for locals which were often too time consuming for tradesmen.
"It warms the heart to see the reactions of individuals particularly the elderly, when a well-loved chair or grandfather clock case is restored and returned," he said.
The Men's Shed regularly holds talks on topics both mental and physical, which were open to the wives and partners as part of their commitment to men's health.
"The topical issue of COVID-19 vaccinations was a case in point," he said.
A welcome new member is Neil Grayson, who for many years worked as a metal work teacher at TAFE.
"Mr Grayson brings a wealth of his experience and training which shares with the Men's Shed members," Mr Edwards said.
"He is happiest inventing art and ingeniously useful pieces and offers training after hours to enthusiasts.
"Come along and talk to him.
"The shed is always on the lookout for new members and we are particularly interested in seeing younger members who may have full time jobs and can't make the daytime hours.
"To that end we are prepared to open on an evening to accommodate them.
"We would welcome FIFO workers as well."
The Men's Shed is located at 35 Dunsborough Lakes Drive next to the Lion's Shed and the Community Garden.
