The Dunsborough Quilt Show will be held next month, and already entries are coming from quilters throughout the South West and Perth, with around 120 works committed so far.

A first time entrant will be 87 year old Gaena Duncan who recently moved to Busselton and heard about the show from her new neighbour Ruth Brooks, one of the South West's finest felters.

"When I heard Gaena was a quilter, I urged her to exhibit some of her work," Ruth said.

This will be the fifth time the show, organised every two years, has been held.

Spokesperson Di Gillett said the September 24, 2021 was the cut-off date for entries.

"We are very pleased to welcome Gaena, who was chief steward for home crafts at the Perth Royal Show for many years. She was also national president of the Cake Decorators Association," she said.

"Ruth, one of our best felters in the South West, will also be exhibiting her work.

"The public can expect to see some amazing quilts by some of Western Australia's finest craftswomen.

"Public entry will be by a gold coin donation.

"While we have some very experienced quilters showing their work, we also are encouraging beginners to enter this year. Work can include patchwork, applique, runners, wall hangings, quilt tops, cushions and bags.

"We have a 'people's choice' prize sponsored, as well as a 'most inspiring' prize to be selected by a mystery judge."

Quilters pay no entry fee, but are charged a 15 per cent commission for any work they sell at the show.

"The money goes to support community and charity projects organised by St George's Anglican Church in Dunsborough," Ms Gillett said.

The Quilt Show will be held from 10am and 4pm on October 2 to 3 at St George's Family Centre, Gibney Street, Dunsborough.

Tea, coffee, cake and a light lunch will be available on both days of the Show, with craft and patchwork supplies also on sale.

Interested entrants may contact Di Gillett on 041 798 2414 or email her at digillett@westnet.com.au for an entry form.
