About myself
My name is Mikayla Love, my family moved to Busselton when I was six years old, and I have lived here ever since.
I attended all my schooling locally, and I work at a local community bank.
I take great pleasure in hearing about upcoming local community events, and love to give a helping hand when needed.
Previously I have helped with bake sales, sausage sizzles and raffles to raise money for causes such as Telethon, Second Bite, Redkite and Headspace.
Most recently I have volunteered to plant trees with the Tuart Forest Restoration group, at one of their annual tree planting events.
Motivation
I am running for for the City of Busselton Council, as I believe there is not a fair representation of the younger demographic of the Busselton and Dunsborough community within the local council.
I'll admit that I do not have any prior experience in politics, however what I lack in experience, I make up in motivation and ambition.
I take great pride in my integrity and hard work; people close to me would describe me as a considerate and caring individual.
I will bring a fresh perspective to the council and be a voice for the younger demographic of the Busselton and Dunsborough community.
Needs addressing
I would like a mentoring program established to help build and enhance Busselton and Dunsborough's youth's sense of motivation and self-belief, with a real focus on our at-risk youth.
I would like to see the city utilise our state-of-the-art facilities (the skatepark, amphitheatre, etc.) to host more youth and family focused events.
While I intend to be a voice for the younger population of our region, I also plan to listen to the concerns of the elder community of the Busselton and Dunsborough area, as I believe it is important to find a cohesive middle between the two demographics.
Recently our community has built momentum in the provision of mental health support and prevention tools, however I feel we could continue to expand in this direction, as this is an issue that everyone is affected by.
I especially would like to implement more events focusing on men's mental health as this subject is too often disregarded.
I would also want to implement a more inclusive provision of waste collection services to the surrounding farming communities of Busselton and Dunsborough.
