When four-year-old Max got upset when he was told he couldn't see his Pop who was in hospital in Perth, he decided to write him a book.
Max's story entailed how they would go out fishing and Pop - Graeme Ridge - asked 'Maxy should we go on a trip to the stars?'
Pop and Max's adventure took a new level where Max wrote how they fought off a monster and put 100 stars in a jar to take home with them.
Without even knowing anything about the upcoming Light the Night event, Max finished off the book with a line that beautifully pertains to what this event is all about.
"Every Tuesday when I see Pop we float a star back up to space to light up the night, we make a wish together and it always comes true."
This year on October 16, people will be lighting up their homes and participating in a virtual Light the Night event to raise money for the Leukeamia Foundation.
Light the Night is way for a thousands of Australians who are impacted by blood cancer, also known as leukaemia to raise money and awareness for the Leukaemia Foundation as well as to commemorate those who have lost their battle with the disease.
For Busselton resident Nicole Gregson and her family, this year's event will be the first one without her father, Graeme Ridge, who passed away from acute myeloid leukaemia in late August.
Nicole's father had an extremely tough journey with his cancer with not much going right for him and after just one year from when he was diagnosed he passed away.
Mr Ridge left behind his wife, children and seven grandchildren.
Ms Gregson's said her father took to being a granddad like 'a duck to water'.
Her four-year-old son Max idolised his Pop and would spend many times outdoors and going fishing.
Ms Gregson is currently looking for someone to help print and publish Max's story to sell it and raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation and to share his beautiful words far and wide.
In memory of her father, husband and dear Poppy, Nicole's family will be coming together on Saturday 16 October on the night of Light the Night to remember a man they all dearly loved.
