APPLICATION FOR MUSIC VENUE
An application to change a rural property into a 'multi-genre music and art event' venue is open for public feedback.
Mayfly Property Group have applied to change the use of the Sabina River property on Espinos Road to 'reception area'.
The applicants intend to use the venue for events which could hold an audience of up to 12,000 and camping facilities to be able to hold up to 6,000.
The group are applying to host two three-day camping music events and three single day/overnight events per year.
The subject site is on 20 hectares and located 15km from the Busselton town centre.
As part of the application, Mayfly Property Group suggest their events would generate more than $2.8 millio per event in external economic benefits to the Busselton region.
The application shows this could be done by providing shuttle services through the Busselton area to encourage patrons to utilise "some of the 13,000 beds in the Busselton area...bars... shops".
Public submissions close on December 3.
City of Busselton Mayor Grant Henley told the Mail that the two neighbouring owners spoke at the Community Access Session on November 17 about the application.
He said while only two people spoke about the issue, about one quarter of the gallery were there in support of the speakers.
