ONLINE registrations are now open for the 2014 SunSmart Busselton Jetty Swim, which will be held on Sunday February 9.
Entries are open for solo swimmers, or teams of two or four, to participate in the 3.6km ocean swim around Busselton’s iconic jetty.
The 2014 swim represents the 19th time this annual event has taken place, and registrations have been increased to accommodate 1,750 swimmers in 2014 following a record number of entries for the 2013 event.
It is already shaping up to be a huge weekend of sports and entertainment and the Jetty Swim committee is delighted many of the current sponsors have once again signed up to support the event.
The swim has attracted a number of new sponsors, including Doric who has committed to a gold level partnership for the 2014 event.
“Some of our event sponsors have been with us for more than ten years and it is great to see so many local and new businesses keen to support our event once again in 2014,” committee president Max Higgins said.
Healthway has been involved as a sponsor of the Busselton Jetty Swim since 1997 and for the past three years has promoted the ‘Be Active’ message.
They have committed to a further two years as naming rights sponsor and changed the health message to ‘SunSmart’.
“Being ‘SunSmart’ helps you to cut your risk of skin cancer,” Healthway’s executive director David Malone said.
“Every year, over 440,000 Australians are diagnosed with skin cancer and 1,700 people die from the disease.
“The good news is that skin cancer is preventable by minimising exposure to ultraviolet radiation, so whether you’re competing, spectating or volunteering at the SunSmart Busselton Jetty Swim, make sure you slip, slop, slap, seek and slide.”
Entries received before December 1 are eligible to win an early bird prize from Westralia Helicopters, for a scenic helicopter flight for two people over Geographe Bay.
