FORMER Nannup resident Paul Borbas is a name to watch in the theatre business, as he prepares to take to the stage for the world premiere of a heartfelt family drama this month at Roleystone Theatre.
Borbas will star in A House That Jack Built, written by Mark Thompson and based on parties, family and friends.
The play explores love, loss, life and the tragedy, humour and honesty associated with it.
Inspired by the playwright’s life, Borbas plays Jack’s father – someone he describes as a “fairly amiable bloke”.
“He enjoys a beer and socialising,” he said.
“The father does his best to keep the peace though, at times, fails to see the big picture of what’s going on.”
Borbas last stepped onto the stage over 25 years ago, appearing in Oliver Twist, Jesus Christ Superstar and Bye Bye Birdie, but became involved again last year after his son Liam appeared in Peter Pan late last year at Roleystone Theatre.
“I prepared a monologue, gave a rousing improvisation and I was offered the part,” he said.
“I’m having a fantastic time as the father of my son, playing the father of my son in a play.”
Mr Borbas said the greatest challenge was refraining from calling his son by his real name instead of his character name whilst on stage.
A House That Jack Built will be showing at Roleystone Theatre at 8pm on March 21,22,28 and 29 and tickets are $16 for adults and $12 for concession card holders.
