Goulburn aim for top four spot

The fourth-placed Bulldogs will play the third-placed Warriors on Sunday in a "must-win" clash for both sides as they battle for top-four finishes to the Canberra Raiders Cup season.

The Bulldogs have been hit by injuries and late-season holidays, with Scott McCallum out for the rest of the season with a knee injury and Matthew Worboys away on holidays.

“Winning this game will hopefully let us build some consistency coming into the last few games of the season, so we can hit the finals with some good form,” Dodson said.

“A loss now could throw us out [of a chance at a top-two spot].”

While the Bulldogs are the most attacking side in the competition, they face a Warriors team who have won four of their last five matches, and who held the Bulldogs to a draw when the sides last met in Goulburn in May.

Dodson believes West Belconnen will be a stern test for Goulburn, who are used to a smaller pitch and dryer conditions.

“They’ll be tough in Canberra … we’ve lost a few games like it this season,” he said.

But the Bulldogs will rely on their strong forward pack and the form and experience of Picker brothers Ben and Michael to lead the Dogs to a win at Raiders Oval.

“Him [Ben] and Mick are good to have around, they bring a lot to the team and are really good to play with," Dodson said.

“Benny’s going great this season [with 94 points, the competition's top point-scorer].

“Compared to last season the team’s gutsier going forward and we are a more balanced side.

"I’m actually really impressed with some of our forwards who have been coming through this season. They really stepped up.”
