IN conjunction with National Science Week 2014 a former Busselton resident is now a published author of a mini-cookbook that combines food with science.
Former My Kitchen Rules contestant and scientist Emma Donnelly received a small seed grant from Inspiring Australia and National Science Week 2014 to develop Eat, Drink, Think – Recipes for the evidence based cook.
The self-published mini-cook book contains science tips and tricks to make cooking a more successful experience.
Since competing on Season 3 of My Kitchen Rules with her partner Andrew Paton, the pair have started a part-time business titled Culinary Spice; a business that combines all things food and science.
“People are so intimidated by combining science and cooking but really love the likes of Heston Blumenthal and science-based chefs,” she said.
“But what people don’t realise is that all cooking is pretty much science-based so they are already on their way.”
Ms Donnelly said her book provided scientifically-guided recipes to help people plate up great meals.
“My evidence-based recipes are fail-proof and take out some of the guess work with common tricky dishes, such as cooking a steak – my scientifically-guided recipe will help you plate up a perfectly medium rare fillet, every barbeque,” she said.
Example of other recipes in the book include how to make ice-cream with dry ice, how to make butter and how to make carrot and almond soup with a pressure cooker.
