THE Busselton Pigeon Club held its final week of racing with the flying of the prestigious Young Bird Derby and an open race, with both events being held from Leeman.
It was Peter Adams who proved victorious in the derby, claiming first prize when he clocked a beautiful Grizzle Cock at 1.30pm to register a velocity of 1551.109 metres per minute.
The winning bird was a Houben/Thone mating with both parents of Belgium origin, sourced from fellow flyer Steve Almighty King, whose own bird was pipped by Adams by less than five seconds.
The final podium position was taken by Ant Sharminator Sharman with Mealy Cock, which at 1544.695mpm was still less than one minute from the winner.
Fourth position went to Rotten Ron Blackwell, who despite being disappointed in the result was not far from the top of the pack.
Blackwell and King have been standout performers this season, with the two being the top contenders for the Flyer of the Year honours at the club's presentations in a fort nights time.
Members were particularly delighted with the fifth position gained by 13 year old Jo Trumpeter Chapple due to his recent introduction to racing.
King sought vengeance in the open race when he clocked his Blue Checked Pie Hen with a 1549.663mpm velocity to take the win from Sharman who was 55 seconds away from first position.
Despite a poor result in the derby, Dace Chapple put on an impressive display in the open race, placing third.
Trophy presentation will take place in fortnight with results being published in the coming weeks.
