IT is not everyday that a teenager achieves their pilot license before driving a car.
But DJ Shipton did just that when he completed his ultra light aircraft license a month before he turned 16.
DJ had put in 40 hours of flying with trainer Mike Smith as well five exams.
He said it was tough trying to balance school work with the pilot study, but worth it.
DJ hopes to become a fighter pilot when he grows up and said the next step was achieving his domestic plane license.
Mr Smith said it was rare to see teenagers achieve a pilot license because of the commitment involved.
DJ said his parents were a huge help in him achieving his goal in being able to fly.
While his mother Michelle was worried when he first started, she said she was very proud.
“It’s great to see him find a passion for something and really go for it,” she said.
