BUSSELTON community organisations are encouraged to apply for state government funds supporting women's economic independence and leadership.
Vasse MLA Libby Mettam said funding was now available under the state government's Grants for Women for WA-based projects.
The grants are set at $5000. Ms Mettam said the government was committed to breaking down barriers women continued to face in leadership and independence.
"The Festival of Busselton is a fantastic example of this with the opportunity presented to the four contestants who went out of their comfort zone and put their hands up to be involved in this charity event," Ms Mettam said.
Previous grant recipients include the Shire of Kulin's leadership retreat at Camp Kulin, held over three days which enabled women to develop leadership, communication and group skills and build self-confidence.
Federal member for Forest Nola Marino said the initiative was all about honing, promoting and encouraging female independence and leadership.
She said these included the Being Board Ready Guide encouraging women into leadership roles, scholarships for women to participate in mentoring and entrepreneurial development programs and increased support to Women in Technology WA.
Applications close at 4pm on Thursday, March 12.
