IT was hot and smoky in Harvey last Saturday when 19 members of the Busselton Swimming Club attended the 2015 Harvey Open Swim Meet.
Conditions were tough for the swimmers in the outdoor pool but the club still put in a strong performance and came home with a number of medals.
Three of the club’s members chose Harvey to make their official swimming debuts. Callum Hannan, Cicely Hodel and Tenille Pavlino - vich overcame their nerves to swim great times throughout the meet.
Several Busselton competitors swam personal best times, including Kaitlyn Taylor who impressed by achieving five personal bests from five events.
Despite the attendance of several large city clubs, Busselton swimmers won 19 medals. Cara Viljoen, Tessa Viljoen, Amy Kerr, Isaac Morrison and Jay Darnell all won multiple medals including several golds.
Cara and Tessa dominated their age group. Amy won the 50 metre breaststroke for the second year in row and saw her ranking in the 100m breaststroke rise to second in the state.
Jay and Isaac were both ranked in the top five male swimmers of the meet because of their outstanding personal best times and top three finishes throughout the day.
