GRACETOWN will receive a communications boost with the installation of a regional mobile phone tower set to be completed by June.
The installation of the tower will greatly improve both mobile and internet coverage in the town.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman and Commerce Minister Michael Mischin visited Grace town last week to make the announcement.
Mr Redman said it was an exciting day.
He said the state government had already rolled out $40 million for 113 communication towers through regional Western Australia and an additional $45m for 85 regional sites showed the government’s commitment to regional communication.
Mr Redman said Gracetown was one of the most important sites identified by the state government.
“[Gracetown] has a history of having some challenges with communications, especially around the emergency services issues which were brought to bear in recent times,” Mr Redman said.
Vasse MP Libby Mettam said since her election campaign she had engaged with the community in Gracetown and heard major concerns about poor communication in the town.
Ms Mettam said due to a number of traumatic events that had taken place in Gracetown, being able to improve mobile coverage was a huge step for the community
