MACKILLOP Catholic College hosted renowned West Australian author Craig Silvey, who spoke to year 11 students about his novel Jasper Jones.
Jasper Jones is considered by many to be Australia's version of the classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
Mr Silvey spoke to Year 11 students who started the year by completing an analysis of the novel with a sinister twist set in a fictional Australian country town.
The Fremantle writer also made time to share some writing tips with the schools student Book Club and a small group of Year 12s who studied the text last year.
MacKillop Catholic College Marketing and Communications officer Linda Tolley said Mr Silvey spoke with enthusiasm and humour, sharing many anecdotes and offering rare insights into the writing and publishing process.
“The quality of the student’s questions and comments clearly impressed our visiting celebrity author,” Ms Tolley said.
“The students were enthralled, with many bringing their own copies of Silvey’s book to be signed by their favourite author.”
She said the day was a hit with many inspired budding authors, amused students and author-struck English teachers.
