The Dunsborough Ducks packed up the tour bus on Friday and made the two hour journey north to Waroona.
The Demons have just entered the Masters Footy comp this year and the word on the street was that they were a very handy unit indeed.
The Ducks prepared on the trip up with some stretching of the elbow joints and were feeling no pain by the time they arrived in the sleepy little hamlet, loose and ready for the challenge ahead.
As the first quarter got under way, the task at hand looked even more difficult as the Waroona ruckman, a seven foot giant gave his team first use of the ball and the slick Waroona midfielders surged forward.
Thankfully Dan Pirate and Red Sweeney were sat back and ably repelled the attack. Dan Pirate in particular looked sharp with his bald scone and newly chiseled six pack.
Fred Wilma and Roscoe were also giving great support off half back as the Ducks side began to take the ascendency.
The Dunsborough forwards took full advantage and the scoreboard started to tick over as Bubbles Hanley, President Phil and Anywhere Baker slotted majors.
Bintang Ben and Shaun Junkyard appeared to have the ball on a string, racking up possesions at will, teaming up with Baz Collins, and Browny in the centre to form a potent midfield.
At one point Baz Collins ran the length of the ground only to miss from five metres out, dead in front. “Hungry”, was the cry.
Ben Bunjal slotted one through from the boundary, DJ Namu managed a contested mark for once and calmly converted as the Ducks went into the main break in complete control.
The second half was more of the same as the Ducks broke apart the contest. Mark Flynn and Geoff Bundy were dominating in the ruck now and Poodle, Novak, Russ and Tank Matthews spent some time in the middle relishing the rucks good work.
Delivery into the forward line was direct and Moose Stone was like a kid in a candy store as he took a candidate for mark of the year, only to miss the shot. Moose made amends however, kicking his way to a record haul of 10 goals.
In the end the Dunsborough outfit were far to strong for the new kids on the block, holding Waroona to a solitary point, whilst kicking 32.9 to set a new benchmark for future Dunsborough teams.
It’s was all in good fun though as the teams joined for a soft drink and a sausage sizzle after the game.
Presentations were made as Dan Pirate and Novak picked up the coaches awards and the Ducks made their way onto the bus for the long journey south.
Many thanks to all the Dunsborough and Waroona players and to the long suffering Duckettes.
