Round Two of the Busselton District Junior Football Association kicked off under lights last Friday night at Bovell Oval, with Towns taking on Wanderers in the year 9-10 competition.
Two AFL legends were surprise visitors to both teams' rooms before the game. Mark 'Bomber' Thompson and Glen Jakovich were in town to speak at a Busselton Football Club sportsmens night and gave the juniors some words of encouragement.
Both teams must have been inspired by the visits, as they came out firing from the first bounce. In a very entertaining game, it was Wanderers who made it two wins from two starts, running out winners 8-7-55 to an inaccurate Towns 3-9-27.
The game of the round was also in the Year 9-10 competition, with Rovers playing host to Saints at Bovell Oval on Saturday.
In a fantastic example of junior football, the powerful Saints team kicked away to eventually win with a very accurate 13-1-79 to Rovers 4-7-31.
Saints sent a warning to the competition with a display of team football that a hard-working Rovers simply had no answer to, and it is hard, even at this early stage of the season, to see who is going to match it with them. Saints had winners all across the ground, while, for Rovers, Blake Williamson was outstanding, while Connor Timms and Griffin Jancey put in four-quarter efforts.
The Busselton-Dunsborough Mail player of the week was Liam Argyle, a midfielder with Vasse Royals year 7-8 team.
Liam used his fitness to great advantage against Dunsborough White, gaining possession around the ground to drive his team into attack.
The Cape Naturaliste College Year 8 student prides himself on his teamwork, so little wonder he models his game on the Dockers Nat Fyfe.
Being a Dockers fan is a pretty good thing to be at present! Coach Tim Ginnane is thrilled to have the number eighteen running around in his team and uses Liam's speed and skill to good effect.
Congratulations, Liam, on being the Round Two winner of the Junior Player of the Week.
