The Dunsborough Towners Premier League season is increasingly tumbling into chaos with a disastrous 9-0 loss to title contenders Bunbury Dynamo, on bitterly cold and wet conditions, at Forrest Park Bunbury on Sunday.
The lack of players because of injury and work commitments since the start of the season has previously been highlighted.
But just as debilitating has been the bizarre scheduling with Dunsborough sides, both men and women, having played only one match at home and reaching the half way of the season on Sunday.
The women suffered on Sunday when they faced Dynamo, one of the traditional powerhouses of the women’s game in the South West and collapsed to an 11-0 defeat.
Fortunately, Dunsborough’s reserves provided a little ray of sunshine while losing 1-0 to Dynamo, a thundering 30 metre drive from Dynamo robbing the Towners of a well deserved draw.
It was a strong team effort with player-coach Chris Backburn once again opting to play with the reserves while goalkeeper Andy Stocks was the Dunsborough Tavern’s man of the match.
From the start Dynamos took control with the main match and though they scored in the 20th minute, the Towner’s generally resisted the constant pressure.
Any hope, however, that Dynamo could be contained disappeared in the 30th minute when Justin Barker was red carded and dismissed for a handball in the last line of defence.
The penalty opened up the floodgates and by half time Dynamos had established a five goal lead scoring in the 35th, 40th, and 44th minutes.
Four more were scored in the second half while Kaden Heathcote in the 15th and 60th minutes and Ethan Delatte in the 90th providing Dunsborough with fleeting moments that some pride could be restored.
The score could have been more but for defender Redar Saber who was a tower of strength and the Shelford Construction man of the match for Dunsborough.
In reality Dynamos played as they pleased strolling in defence, controlling the midfield and scoring at will.
Dunsborough’s teamwork fell apart as the game progressed and it was evident that the loss of Blackburn, in addition to the dismissal of Barker, with his experience and skill was sorely missed.
