THREE million dollars has been invested into the South West as part of the federal government’s mobile black spot program.
Yallingup East as well as Baudin, Hamelin Bay, Leeuwin, Rosa Brook and Rosa Glen have been named to benefit from the funding.
Vasse MP Libby Mettam welcomed the news and said Yallingup would have a new telecommunication tower in the 2015-16 financial year.
“Good mobile coverage is critical to address emergency situations and for conducting business more effectively,” she said.
This significant upgrade is essential for Yallingup residents and visitors alike, and recognises the priority need for reliable mobile communication in Yallingup.”
Federal member for Forrest Nola Marino said the investment would improve the lives of many people working and living the South West.
Telstra will build the new 3G and 4G towers which are going up nationally.
Telstra Area General Manager Boyd Brown said Telstra’s participation in the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program was just another example of its ongoing commitment to regional and rural Australia.
“People and business are now relying on mobile connectivity more than ever and we are acutely aware of the challenges facing communities living with limited access to a mobile network,” Mr Brown said.
“That is why we are excited to play an important role in delivering mobile coverage to a large number of regional communities as part of the federal government’s mobile black spot program.”
