AN elderly lady made a lucky escape with the help of three heroic men after her car shot off the rocks and into the water at Monaghan’s Jetty on Monday morning.
The lady was parking her car when she accidentally hit the accelerator launching her car over the rocks “like a rocket” and into the water.
Witness to the accident Ray Walker said the car was travelling fairly slowly then he heard the engine roar and hit the rocks on a 45 degree angle.
“It went off like a rocket and started floating in the water,” he said.
A witness jumped in to help the lady and Mr Walker got a piece of rope from his car which they managed to tie onto the back of the vehicle and pull the car back to the rocks.
“Luckily the tailgate was open and we held the car up to the rocks and coaxed her out the back helping her up the rocks,” he said.
“’Where’s my dog?’ were her first words.”
Mr Walker said he is a mad fisherman and normally goes down to Monaghan’s each day to see if anyone is catching fish.
He said there usually wasn’t many people around and the woman was lucky that this situation was different with people ready to help.
The City of Busselton pulled the car out of the water which had drifted away from the shore and the woman was taken to Busselton Hospital for shock and her dog was being cared for.
