IN the 60’s Perth band Gemini had a smash hit Sunshine River after being discovered in a bar by a guy smoking a cigar who said he’d make them stars.
It wasn’t long until radio stations from Perth to Melbourne were playing the song and the folk band drove across the Nullarbor with their hit.
Gemini musician and author Charles Hall has used the experience from being in a 60’s folk band as the inspiration for his new novel Summer’s Gone.
Mr Hall said the story starts in Perth the same week Sergent Peppers is released when one of the characters meets some girls and forms a folk band.
“To a certain extent it’s based on parts of my life,” he said.
The new book looks back at the death of a friend to reveal what happened 50 years ago.
Mr Hall will be appearing at the Busselton Library between 2pm and 3pm on Monday September 14 armed with his new book, guitar and wife Sue Hall.
“We might play the song with an acoustic guitar unless the library says we can’t otherwise we’ll rip it out,” he said.
