CITY of Busselton councillor John McCallum will run for re-election in October in a bid to retain his seat on the council.
Mr McCallum has been on the council for the last four years and said it was a “privilege to serve the community.”
“We have achieved many things in four years,” he said.
“As a councillor you always listen to the community.
“The council prioritises the community’s aspirations which assists in preparing a long term financial plan which then keeps the focussed the council year by year.”
“My aims remain sustainable growth whilst at the same time maintaining our heritage and preserving our natural environment.”
Mr McCallum said the City needs a period to consolidate and implement our major projects which will require a lot of resources.
“I love seeing the Busselton and Dunsborough foreshores being improved and certainly the Busselton foreshore master plan being fulfilled,” he said.
“The Busselton regional airport is the most significant single project this City has ever undertaken and presents the whole South West community with tremendous opportunities from not only tourism but horticultural and freight export.”
The two things Mr McCallum feels most proud of and had an influence on was the installation of the shark barrier in Dunsborough and the edge sealing of Caves Road.
Having no regrets being on council for the last four years Mr McCallum said, “I don’t think you achieve anything on your own.
“I see the council being part of a team in which city staff and the community come together.”
During his first term on council Mr McCallum said the information city officers provided was crucial in making informed decisions.
“This city has been blessed to have a really good chief executive officer, Mike Archer and the experience of a very good mayor Ian Stubbs,” he said.
“Their combined experience in local government and working with communities has kept us focussed and on track.
“What we have achieved in four years is fantastic.”
