IMPROVING transport, disability access and security across the city are part of the new social and aging policy up for voting at council on Wednesday.
City officers, community groups, government agencies and private agencies all use the policy as a guide on working together and managing the city’s social issues.
The plan aims to create community wellbeing and improve the quality of life for people living within the City of Busselton.
Disability access, safety and security, leisure services, bike plans and cultural initiatives influenced the new policy.
The focus areas determine what projects the council will undertake to improve business, industry and employment, transport, community health and wellbeing, seniors, youth services, children and family services, education, safety, culture and leisure.
City of Busselton director of community and commercial services Naomi Searle said job creation was a key driver for major projects such as tourism, events, the airport expansion and foreshore development.
“The city is a strong advocate for increased trainee and apprenticeship opportunities and is working with local business to encourage these types of placements,” she said.
“The city also tried to lead by example by providing its own work placement, trainee and apprenticeship opportunities.”
Other projects driven by the policy will look at improving public transport to service new subdivisions and improvements to disability access across the city.
Ms Searle said in previous years the policy was used to improve ACROD parking bays and construct disabled toilets throughout the region.
She said disabled viewing and beach access platforms had been constructed at Bunker Bay, Eagle Bay and the Busselton and Dunsborough foreshores.
“We also have a disabled fishing platform on the Busselton Jetty and the new berthing facility on the jetty will provide disabled access for passengers disembarking from cruise ships and recreational vessels.”
Councillors will vote on whether the policy will go out for public comment around December 2.
