GEOGRAPHE Bay Yacht Club junior sailing coach Kevin Rose has taught children in WA how to sail for the past 30 years.
Rose has been at the Geographe Bay Yacht Club for 17 years and will take his latest group of junior sailors to Geraldton this week to compete in the state championships.
Assisted by Riley Nail, Rose has coached the juniors three days a week in the lead up to the state championships.
Busselton will enter nine pelicans in the regatta with a combined total of 18 sailors making up the biggest fleet in the state wide competition.
Rose said out of the nine teams competing at Geraldton there were a couple of teams which should finish in the top five.
“We have a lot of learners who have trained hard so hopefully they do very well,” he said.
“Highlights from my career were winning the state championships twice.”
Also known as Captain Pelican, Rose’s dedication to junior sailing has earned him a highly regarded reputation throughout WA.
Rose said watching the children develop and improve their sailing has kept him coaching for the past three decades.
“I’ll keep doing it for a while,” he said.
Undoubtedly there will be lots of smiling children from Busselton with the high level of training they received in the lead up to the championships.
