Look after Meelup
The salmon are running again and the coast of Meelup Regional Park is a popular place for fishermen and women.
If you are fishing in Meelup Park, please remember that this coastline is home to many non-human fishermen who share their favourite fishing spots with you at this time of the year.
Respect your fishing spot, and theirs, by leaving Meelup better than you found it.
Remember that the blue wrens living at Point Picquet can become tangled in discarded monofilament fishing line, that old plastic bait bags are very dangerous when pelicans ingest them and that empty cans and bottles wash into the ocean if they are left on the rocks.
Meelup is a very special place which is why you like to fish there, respect it and help protect it.

Think again on Aldi
I refer to your article “Aldi approved for West Street” published on 20 April, and the comments attributed to the Mayor Grant Henley.
It is disappointing the Mayor did not refer to the strong support for the original Council decision (to reject this location) from many small retail business owners, nor the 200 shoppers and ratepayers who support the original Council decision.
To my knowledge the Chamber did not publicly state its support for this decision and did not consult its own members before lobbying Councillors.
It is incorrect to infer that the Chamber can speak for the small businesses that will be adversely affected.
It is important that ratepayers and residents of Busselton understand that we are not objecting to an Aldi supermarket coming to Busselton; we are objecting to it coming to this location, and that Council has given in to pressure from a big business, and not supported the existing retailers, who do so much to enhance the CBD and support the community.
