VASSE fitness model Jarryd Heldt will travel to Sydney to compete in the International Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA) City Nationals competition after winning the State Fitness Model title last week.
Mr Heldt competed against 20 other West Australians to become the Overall winner of the men’s Fitness Model category at the state rounds of the INBA Australian contest.
He was judged for his physique, muscle definition and overall stage presence, which saw him also win the First Timers Tall Division, Novice and Over 30 titles.
“Winning the Overall has won my a free trip paid by the promoters to compete at the INBA City Nationals in Sydney on May 28, against the other winners from around the states,” he said.
“It is also a pro qualifier event where I may be able to get a pro card.”
Mr Heldt said he followed the sport for some time before entering himself.
“I have been training for around eight years now, just as a regular gym goer four to five times a week to keep fit for surfing and work,” he said.
“Seeing the people and how they looked got my attention, so I thought to myself I would like to look like that one day.”
Mr Heldt said he trained five to six days a week at F45 Training Vasse.
“Being around a team environment helps keep me motivated on the days I am a bit run down,” he said.
“I train 45 minutes in the morning and do three strength sessions in the afternoon (approximately one hour).
“Many people always try to change the way they look without doing the hard work.
Training for 60 minutes is easy, it is what you do for the other 23 hours that matter.”
The fitness model sticks to a strict diet of eggs and vegetables when preparing for an event.
“It is mainly the last two weeks where I really knuckle down to get ‘stage’ ready,” he said.
In regards to training, Mr Heldt said it can be as easy or hard as you want to make it.
“The workouts are never the same so I don't get stuck in the same routine and it always keeps the body guessing,” he said.
“You can take the easy option or you can push yourself to your maximum limit, that is what I like about it.”
