A NUMBER of Dunsborough’s future skateboarding stars took part in some school holiday fun earlier this week, at Tailtap’s skate clinics.
The clinics, run by coaches Lachlan Micale and Luke Ward, saw children from the age of five learn and develop their skateboarding skills at the Dunsborough Skate Park.
Mr Micale said during the clinics children learned the basics of skateboarding.
“We get all of their techniques perfect and then they can start learning tricks,” he said. “We kind of repeat it until they have got that trick down, and then keep going from there, we do not rush them.”
Mr Micale said the lessons were a great way to teach children skate park etiquette.
“It is good to see kids getting right into it, helping each other out, giving each other high fives when they get tricks and stuff,” he said. “It is bringing quite a good vibe to the Dunsborough Skate Park for sure.”
The skateboarding coach said the classes, which run throughout the spring school holidays, were designed for everyone at any skill level and was a real confidence boost.
“I think for someone who is quite shy, they can really open up and speak through skate boarding,” he said.
“It is good for their motivation and confidence building, and also making friends through the whole process as well.”
Tailtap’s skate lessons for ages five to seven run from 8.30-9.30am, eight to 10s from 10-11am, and 10 and up from 11.30-12.30pm, on October 1-3, 4, 8 and 9.
