The travel plans of hundreds of Australian holidaymakers are uncertain with Tigerair cancelling flights in and out of Bali due to approval issues with the Indonesian government.
About 700 customers were stranded during the busy January holiday period on Wednesday after Tigerair cancelled four Bali flights due to what it referred to as "new administrative requirements imposed by the Indonesian government".
Tigerair has cancelled all flights to and from Bali on Thursday.
A flight from Bali to Melbourne on Friday morning has also been cancelled, with the five remaining Friday flights currently under review.
In a statement, a spokesman for the airline said: "Tigerair was and is in compliance with all original conditions imposed by the Indonesian government on the operation of its Bali services."
The spokesman said the airline was working with the relevant Indonesian authorities to meet the new requirements as soon as possible.
"In the meantime, Tigerair's daily return Melbourne-Bali, Adelaide-Bali and Perth-Bali flights are under review until further notice," he said.
"All other Tigerair domestic flights are not affected by this decision."
The spokesman said passengers booked on cancelled services, as well as passengers who would be accommodated on Virgin's replacement flights, would be contacted directly by Tigerair.
Customers currently in Australia affected by Thursday's cancellations will be offered a full refund, he said.
The spokesman said Tigerair was also contacting passengers affected by the cancellations to provide them with accommodation options. Many customers in Bali were accommodated on Virgin flights.
Virgin will operate two flights from Bali on Thursday to bring affected customers back to Australia.
Customers travelling with Tigerair to Bali are advised to visit the airline's website for regular updates.
A DFAT spokesperson said regulatory arrangements were a matter for Tigerair and Indonesian authorities.
"The DFAT travel advice has been updated to reflect this development," the spokesperson said.
"DFAT is not aware of any other Australia-based airlines currently impacted."
