Gay Scaddan is one of 11 Busselton artists who will open their studio doors to the public as part of the Margaret River Region Open Studios event.
Ms Scaddan has participated in the event several times and said it was wonderful to have people visit to see her artwork and have a chat.
She moved to Busselton 23 years ago and joined the art society as a way to meet people and has since held solo exhibitions and received awards for her work.
Much of Ms Scaddan’s work is inspired from trees and forests in the region and she creates a lot of her paintings from memories.
“At the moment I am trying to make the trees semi-abstract,” she said.
“I decided to do something a bit different and started painting with a palette knife I am really enjoying it, with a palette knife you can not keep adding paint because it is too thick.”
While Ms Scaddan has always had an interest in art from a young age it was not a career path that was encouraged and she was able to pursue her passion after retiring in Busselton.
Now she tells her husband, “Do you mind if dinner is a little bit later I am caught up in my studio.”
The Margaret River Region Open Studios event features artists throughout the Margaret River and Busselton region.
