LOCALS joined millions across Australia who stopped to enjoy the running of the Melbourne Cup yesterday.
Those in mystery office sweepstakes, or those who still had lunches to look forward to at the many functions across the region would have been among the only people still celebrating after the horses crossed the finishing line.
It proved a nightmare race for those who had placed bets, with all of the favourites finishing outside the top three.
Outsider Green Moon won the cup at odds of $22.50, with second-placed Fiorente paying $11.80 and third-placed Jakkalberry returning $16.
Anyone who picked the trifecta will have pocketed over $45,000, while the first four finishers in order, which included Kelinni, will have won almost one million dollars.
A lunch function at The Goose raised money for local not-for-profit organisation Nurture Works and their BUZ program which provides activities for children.
Guests enjoyed champagne, canapes and the main race on the big screen.
