Georgiana Molloy Anglican School are celebrating the end of a successful first year of Surf Squad.
This involved an elite group of students from Year 7 to 12 applying to be a member through the school’s surf competition.
Almost every Friday this year, students’ surfed beaches from Gracetown to Rocky Point and many places in between.
In this time, they were often filmed and later reviewed this footage at school to build on their own technique.
The squad also did mock heats in preparation for the Regional Surf Competition, which was held for the first time in the Yallingup region.
This saw GMAS win four of the eight divisions, with Margaret River SHS winning the other four.
Two students from GMAS will be competing at the Junior National Titles at Yallingup against other state teams.
“Josh Cattlin and Kael Walsh are both extremely talented athletes and we wish them well in the All Stars Division,” surf squad coordinator Belinda Anderton said.
“Over the year GMAS has also had professional surfers Clare Bevilaqua and Taj Burrows, come out to speak the students,
“We look forward to Surf Squad again in 2015 and hope to make things bigger and better.”
